Which game out of the series is your favorite?
Right now Pikmin 2 and 3 is tied. Originally 2 was my favorite because I love the treasure hunting and the slow pace. But ever since I restarted my Pikmin 3 file I have fallen in love with this game. When I first played 3, I was enjoying it, but it stressed me out a bit. I found myself lost quite often probably because the areas are much bigger. It took me forever to find Charlie. Yeah I feel stupid for admitting this. My original file was on Day 43. I restarted my file this past Sunday and yesterday I stopped playing where you need to build a bridge in Twilight Woods to save Louie. I believe I'm on Day 15? In my previous file I was battling the boss to save Louie. So I basically caught up to where I left off! I'm quite proud of myself that I have done so much in 15 days. Me doing better is allowing me enjoy this game more. I love environments, the new Pikmin, the Captains, and the story. Although I like the story from Pikmin 2 a little bit better.

I would say 3. Pikmin feels a little clunky due to first instalment syndrome and while the Wii version fixes some of the issues it has, there are still problems with it like how long pikmin take to respond to the whistle or being plucked and whatnot. Pikmin 2 fixes most of those issues, but introduces a few of it's own, like how the caves are a little copy paste at times, the pikmin types feeling quite unbalanced, and some other niggling little complaints. Pikmin 3 fixes almost everything wrong with the previous games and overall feels the most polished, enjoyable game from my view. The finally somewhat well balanced pikmin, the improved control... mostly, and the high level of replay value (I've sunk 110 hours into this game over a few months),among other things makes it my personal favourite.

I'm also tied between P2 and P3. Pikmin 2 had a nice decent length and was slow paced, as you said. But Pikmin 3 was just so detailed and was a pretty high quality. If P3 was longer like P2 was, I'd say P3 was the best out of the three. But alas, it's short...
Mission Mode was nice, too, so I'll give P3 that.

I don't care too much for the length of Pikmin 3, because of it's high replay value, seriously I've completed story mode 4 times and have replayed each Mission Mode stage countless amounts of times. Pikmin 2 is a close second however.

Pikmin 3 fixed many things that Pikmin 2 did wrong. The engine was amazing, encouraged quick thinking in every regard and very solid gameplay. The controls are the best in the series, the graphics look amazing, and the new Pikmin types allow for very strategic gameplay. The new characters are a fun edition and the game had much more story to it than the other games. The mission mode was an amazing improvement from Pikmin 2 as well. (Once the dlc got out)
That being said there were some things Pikmin 3 did wrong. For one it was quite buggy and had many game breaking glitches. Not that Pikmin 1 and 2 didn't, but it did take much longer for people to find the glitches in those games, making me believe they weren't as buggy. Secondly hunger speed mechanic was waaayyy too easy and wasn't even noticed hardly. Lastly, and this is the worst part, it was short. And for pretty much that reason alone I say this.
Although it had all of those benefits, I look at which game I had more fun playing, and I would have to say Pikmin 2. Even the final relief of waiting for the next installment didn't bring enough excitement to make Pikmin 3 a better experience. Is Pikmin 3 a better game? Is it a better experience? Not at all. And by saying that I don't only mean childhood nostalgia.

I would say Pikmin 2 just surpasses Pikmin 3 for me. My favorite part of Pikmin 2 is the wit: the snarky ship's monologues, the Piklopedia and treasure notes, and the concise story were all very well-written and, for me, extremely enjoyable. It also may be that Pikmin 2 was the first in the series I owned, and it actually added quite a few words to my vocabulary at the time (I was quite young).
Pikmin 3 didn't provide as much of that wit for me (or seemed to have an affectation of it), which was a little minus. But the graphics were gorgeous, and the gameplay was very polished, especially in Mission Mode. Those Mission Mode stages are so darn fun to play for me.
Not that Pikmin or Pikmin 2 had unpolished gameplay or graphics that weren't ahead of their time, but I feel Pikmin 3 delegated a greater proportion of its efforts to that. I still love the original Pikmin, I'm just not very good at it.
All three games have amazing soundtracks, and I refuse to choose a favorite among those.

Buggy? I haven't found any bugs in 3. It does lag a bit when your fruit turns into juice. Although I have the digital copy so I wonder if that could be it?

And by saying that I don't only mean childhood nostalgia. I agree with the first and second paragraphs. One of the biggest detractors of P3 was the fact that the camera was more limited unlike P1 and 2. Sure, some scenes had the camera tilted at different angles, so I can see why they took out the different zoom levels, but they would've been nice. I would say Pikmin 2 just surpasses Pikmin 3 for me. My favorite part of Pikmin 2 is the wit: the snarky ship's monologues, the Piklopedia and treasure notes, and the concise story were all very well-written and, for me, extremely enjoyable. I loved the wit as well, and the lack of the Piklopedia/Treasure Hoard was definitely another big detractor. I loved scrolling through the Piklopedia and interacting with the enemies. And yes, all the games have beautiful music. It's impossible to decide which music track is the best. Pikmin 3 got some things right, and it also got some things wrong, too, and I'd say that they balance each other out. Because of this, Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 are tied for best Pikmin game. Sorry, Pikmin 1...

So I'm near the end of the game. Right at the final boss. Hate it! Hate it! I'm at the part of fleeing from the guy. Seems pointless in my opinion. Also I just looked up to see if you can keep playing afterward. You can't. You have to go in the past. So I guess I'll go collect every fruit I miss before beating him.
Strike for Pikmin 3. I like how in 2 you can keep playing. Regardless 3 still has a lot going for it. So they're still both tied for me.

Yeah, I was sad that you couldn't keep playing afterwards, but I eventually forgot about it. Hmm, maybe after I collect all fruits but before I defeat the Plasm Wraith, I should try Pikmin farming in Pikmin 3, and see how many Pikmin I can grow in 98 days. (I've been Pikmin farming in Pikmin 2 for ages. See here for how many Pikmin I've grown.)

Circular go here's make the Mysterious Life Form more of a minor inconvenience than an actual threat, which is one of my problems with the Formidable Oak. I do like going through the area more than everyone else apparently but that knocks it down a few points. Rock Pikmin are incredibly useful for the fight itself, but for the chase section aren't as good. I would suggest more Wings honestly.

Good tips thanks guys. I'm just bum because I was going to beat the main storyline under 30 days. The game really puts that as the primary focus. So I was like I'll go get the rest of the fruit later. Oh well. I'll beat it when I beat it.

I like how in 2 you can keep playing. Regardless 3 still has a lot going for it. So they're still both tied for me. For the chase section, I recommend a 20/20/20/10/30 team. You really only need 20 Reds, Rocks, and Yellows to get their jobs done, keep 10 Wings on Olimar at all times and your 30 Blues can shortcut through the water to easily build the bridge in the cave right before the end. PRO TIP: Instead of going to the area with the two Blowhogs, the Bearded Amprat, and Swooping Snitchbug, have your Rock Pikmin bust open the glass wall. Here, you have access to some Bomb Rocks that can blow open the Stone Wall at the beginning, thus creating a MASSIVE shortcut. For the boss, Take two captains armed with 75 Rock Pikmin, and leave the third by base with 5 Reds, Yellows, Blues, and 10 Wings. Whenever he throws up a Fire, Electricity, or Water Plasm, have your Rock Pikmin team distract him while the third captain swoops in and destroys the Plasm. When he starts throwing three up at one time, I recommend only going after two of them as your Pikmin probably need whistling at this point. When he starts flying, charge Wings at him. When they bring him down, toss Rock Pikmin at him for some good damage. And of course, always keep Pikmin under the effects of a Spicy Spray. ANOTHER PRO TIP: Remember, you're right next to the Onion the whole battle. If you feel that you're losing too many Pikmin or aren't a fan of your setup, you can always make adjustments.

ANOTHER PRO TIP: Remember, you're right next to the Onion the whole battle. If you feel that you're losing too many Pikmin or aren't a fan of your setup, you can always make adjustments. Breaking down the stone wall at the beginning of the labyrinth saves a huge a huge amount of time going through, it's not like the Mysterious Life Form is much of a threat but still. Thinking about it, bringing more wings isn't too good of an idea in the labyrinth since the only thing they're useful for aside from Olimar is a shortcut in the Bloominous Steeple area and that one only saves five seconds at most, maybe a bit more, which is useless for me anyway since I finish the cave in one day, bring Olimar back to base and quit the day so that the next day the Plasm Wraith is standing there, quite convenient for no death runs by the way. Speaking of the Plasm Wraith, if you're feeling particularly ballsy, it's possible to destroy the electric plasm before the electricity starts I believe, and the fire plasm can be destroyed anytime with rocks and good whistling. I find the fight easier, especially on no death runs with 100 rocks, of course the water plasm is completely untouchable and I don't think I get the chance to attack electric much but the other two are fair game and the rocks are immune to the Wraith's stabby stabby attack which is faaantastic. It's usually good to attack the Plasm Wraith itself when crystal or fire plasms aren't present or are hard to get to, since there's nothing else the pikmin can do during that time which is productive. Sometimes I have a few rocks try to attack the Wraith head on while I take down everything else, it serves as a great distraction. Spicy sprays are good to abuse as well, especially when you're me and don't use them outside of boss fights even with 30 or so in reserve due to forgetting about their existence.

I didn't know that Rock Pikmin can destroy the Electric Plasm. Thinking about it, a full 100 Rock Pikmin squad would be absolute chaos, trying to whistle them from across the battle field, and being knocked all over the place. Maybe a 0/85/0/0/15 strategy is the way to go as Water Plasms are his most deadly attack, if only because trying to save Pikmin from it is a fucking nightmare. I'll have to try it someday.
