Hello. Feel free to post your own ideas and comment on other peoples, including mine. Please try to keep the discussion focused around game mechanics.
Some ideas I've been thinking of recently are how the Pikmin should be tweaked for better balancing. In case you didn't know, the onion in Hey! Pikmin has the colors, Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, Pink, WHITE and PURPLE! This implies that purple and white pikmin may be able to go into the onion and mass produce that way in Pikmin 4. So how should they (and other Pikmin) be balanced?
First, Blues need very little change. They have complete dominance over an entire domain, water, but thats all they have so they aren't OP, maybe they could bring back their ability to save drowning Pikmin from the first 2 games. Yellows are mostly fine too, they're electricity resistance isn't as useful as other resistances, as electricity is no longer lethal, but they have more puzzles based on electricity. They're throw high ability is being threatened by winged Pikmin though because they can fly (duh). As a result they were given increased digging speed in Pikmin 3, which doesn't make that much sense but I can't think of anything either lol. Winged Pikmin are fine too, there flight is incredibly useful, but they make up for it by having decreased damage.
Now for the white Pikmin, they need some adjustments but its not too bad. First off, Speed and Poison resistance are their defining features, keep those. Seeing underground is no longer useful as in Pikmin 3, buried treasure left mounds of dirt behind. Their poisonous property was OP in Pikmin 2 but horrible in Pikmin 3. I think to make it more balenced, it could deal the damage it dealt in Pikmin 2, but over a period of time! They should probably have a damage drop since they have 3 abilities instead of the balanced 2.
Here's the REAL mess. Reds, Rocks and Purples. All 3 of these Pikmin have something in common... damage. In Pikmin 3, reds and rocks worked together very well. Rocks did more damage, but their attack patterns were less effective as they did strong impact damage but then bounced off and had to body slam the enemy. Where as reds weren't quite as powerful but had a better attack pattern as they latched on. Purples mess this up as they have the strength of rocks but the attack pattern of reds. To balance the rocks... I can't think of anything, balancing reds and purples should be good enough. To make up for the red's ability to deal extra damage being less useful, give them a third ability. Like using their long noses to get sap out of holes in trees to stick unstable bridges together or something, I don't really know. Purples, I think should lose there ability to stun as it was ridiculously OP, they also should probably get a damage drop, between rocks and reds. But then they'd become almost useless with 2 buffs (damage and strength) and 2 nerfs (slow speed, short throw height) so what if they had a new ability. What if with their increased strength they could throw small boulders (at the Captain's command) towards cracked walls (this serves as a puzzle element) and enemies, which could deal great damage and stun (this serves as a combat element.)
Okay, if you read all of that you are AWESOME THANK YOU! Please tell me what you think and list of your ideas as well and again thank you.
