if there's one trend among barriers, it's that each (besides the few that every Pikmin can attack) can only be broken down with a specific Pikmin.
What if there was a barrier that required multiple types to take down? Here's an example: a flaming crystal. You would first need to throw Reds onto the crystal to stop the flames. After that you can throw Rock Pikmin at it to destroy the crystal itself. Another example is electric levers. This would only be in a more factory-like area, but there was one in Pikmin 3 so I don't know why it couldn't come back. Yellow Pikmin would nullify the electricity while Purples would slam down onto the lever.

I mean, the beginning part of the final trail in Pikmin 1 was pretty much this. Much larger but the same concept with a little more puzzle to it. Clever idea though.

Speaking of this, you made me realize that the final trial is an amazing example of a "Final Essay Level". Anywho, This idea sounds cool. maybe something like an electrical wire is dipping into water but the wire itself is safe for winged pikmin to grab.

Also this idea is somewhat covered in Pikmin 2 as well, where you can destroy the fire geysers and toxic things so Pikmin can pass through. And in Pikmin 3 where the blue Pikmin can build a bridge to carry other Pikmin. It would also take some thinking to avoid, usually when you see electricity you think of yellow pikmin. Like the plastic coating of the wire? That is a brilliant idea. Actually makes sense too.
