It has been a long standing discussion as to whether the Forest Navel from Pikmin 1 and the Valley Of Repose from Pikmin 2 are the same area. It believe not. Here is my reasoning and theory as to why they aren't the same and what may have happened to the Forest Navel.
First off is layout. The Layout of the Forest Navel and Valley of Repose are completely different.
See they don't look anything a like.
Here's what I think happened to it.
Look at the map here from Pikmin 1,
You can clearly see the Impact Site, Forest Of Hope, The Distant Spring, The Forest Navel, and The Final Trial.
How here's what I think happened. After Olimar left the planet in Pikmin 1 the tectonic plates under the Impact Site, Forest Of Hope, and The Distant Spring moved. This caused those areas to begin to move closer to the shore and The Final Trial. This would mean that the movement would have those areas go through the area where the Forest Navel is covering it. Then as the plates moved they would eventually come to the position that are found in Pikmin 2.
I think that the movement of the plates means that the forest navel is under one of Pikmin 2's areas. I believe that this area is the former Distant Spring. Now known as the Perplexing Pool. My reasoning for this conclusion is that many of the enemies that used to be in the Forest Navel are found in the Perplexing Pool. Such as the Beady Long Legs and the Wolly Wogs.
Also one of the Dungeons in the Perplexing Pool is the Citadel Of Spiders. It's main boss is a Beady Long Legs. That as well as the fact that the Forest Navel is underground leads me to believe that the dungeons in the Perplexing Pool are the remains of The Forest Navel after the plate moved..
This theory would also explain why the impact site became part of the final trial. As the two areas would've been smashed together creating the Wistful Wild.
So that is my theory as to what happened to The Forest Navel and why the maps of Pikmin one and two are different.
