I feel a lot of things right now...
I feel happy nintendo's making a new pikmin game for the 3DS that'll give us a whole new experience! I feel scared that this game will end up a wreck, and make all of us Pikmin fans disappointed... I feel sad that this game looks NOTHING like any of the first 3 pikmin games. Where's the strategy at!? I'm very curious how this game will turn out, and I can't WAIT to see what the name of that duck bulborb is! I think some things in this game just doesn't look right... It just can't be considered a REAL pikmin game...
In the end, I'm pretty excited for what this game has to offer. What do you all think?

I pretty much agree with you. It's hard to say if the game will be good or not with only this reveal, but it clearly doesn't play like a Pikmin game. It's a spinoff. I'm glad that it could expose more people to the world of Pikmin and it makes me hopeful that Nintendo will continue to make Pikmin games into the future. Let's just hope this weird 3DS spinoff is good!! Please no Chibi Robo Zip Lash...

One of the things that stood out to me was the level design. Not in terms of the puzzles or difficulty, but more the ascetics of each level. Look at the very beginning level. They rely on overhangs WAY too much, and the ones they do are not very realistic. They also have random sticks sticking directly horizontal from these overhangs. Although I know there are limitations to a 2d game, but when do you ever see things like that in the main series? All structures in the main series games are there for a reason, and make sense. They could have platforms in the exact same locations, but pull them off so much better in terms of aesthetics.
Also, I'm curious what you mean "end up like chibi-robo zip lash." I wasn't extremely fond of game, but I found it pretty decent for a spin-off. If anything I'd be scared of it ending up like Yoshi's New Island. Keep in mind its a very different game though. It could use many elements of zip lash, but then give them new meaning or uses since its a completely different gameplay experience.

I've never played Chibi-robo zip lash, but the original Chibi-robos were fun, 3d (as in you can move in 3 dimensions), free roaming games, and then they turned it into a 2d platformer, which upsetted a LOT of fans. That's why I compared this new pikmin game to Chibi robo zip lash, because if turning Chibi robo into a 2d game didn't work out so well, it might not work as well for pikmin (although, I do agree that I'm scared it might end up like Yoshi's new island as well...)

Seeing how i am 95% sure that this is not Pikmin 4 and is just a spin off Title, all the hate it is getting isn't really that justified. That being said i am skeptical of the game. It has certainly piqued my interest and i am willing to give it a shot (i do enjoy me a platformer). We also have so little information about the game and only have about a minute and a half of footage so I feel that people should wait until more information is released before harshly criticizing the game for not following the main series formula. This game can definitely turn out to be really goof or really bad (or anything in between). Also being a 2d platformer, Pikmin 3DS can reach out to a new demographic of players and introduce new players to the pikmin franchise. Especially since not everyone can get into Pikmin 1-3's play style this could allow people to enjoy pikmin. Bottom line i look forward to seeing more about this game and it show potential to possibly cement pikmin as a core franchise in Nintendo's line up (i.e. more games more frequently even if it is spin off titles).

I think the main reason people are having this "Zip Lash Scare" is because they fear of having the Pikmin series devolve into something it originally wasn't. Disregarding if Chibi Robo Zip Lash is good or bad(personally I think it's a solid game), it forgoes the gameplay elements and emotional connections that gave the franchise its unique identity in favour of the most blatantly easy to make and over-saturated genre any game could be with very few unique gameplay elements. Having fans of the series see the one of a kind identity get completely pushed aside for a much blander but more marketable direction. The same thing is happening to the Paper Mario series. I'm no fan of that series, but I can see where the anger is coming from, as the newer games feel much more shallow and soulless and yet this is the direction the entire series is going. The biggest problem here is that this very obvious spinoff was shown before the much anticipated, often promised Pikmin 4 without any clarity from trusted sources if this has any connection to the countlessly reassured, being-worked-on game Miyamoto kept telling us about. I'm personally excited that the Pikmin series is finally branching out with spinoffs and hey, Pikmin on the go. My only problem is that it looks a bit too simplistic so far, showing some slight Mario colours in having the most basic enemy in the main games be a supposed boss. We'll just have to wait and see.

I feel the gameplay we've seen is primarily from the first level of the game, so I have confidence there will be a lot more in the game than what was shown in the minute thirty we've seen

I'm actually quite exited for it, even if I don't have high expectations for it. It is just a spin-off title to hold us off untill until the next real pikmin game comes out. I think that as long as you see it as nothing much, we shouldn't be too disappointed.
I also understand why they made it the way they did: IT'S FOR 3DS. Making it the way they did lets them make a game that is longer and more full of... stuff.
Basicaly, the way they did it cut back on storage, witch is VERY important for videogames.
