I just read about this today; apparently it's not just a rumor. I'm not sure how to feel about it, what do you guys think?

I read. Wait, didn't Gamnesia write an article on this game, but it got deleted some time after? Does anybody have the article saved somewhere? I want to read what they know that Nintendo didn't say.

yeah, Professor Wormwood saved it on the skype chat. i can't believe this is what we are getting for Pikmin.
Among the many new games announced for the upcoming NX console, one launch-day game in particular has elicited both great interest and concern from gamers. The newest entry in the Pikmin series, Pikmin Color Splash, is a radical departure from the gameplay of previous games and has the potential to take the franchise to a larger audience base than ever before. While details on the game are still coming in, from what can be told, the game promises to shake up the traditional farming and exploratory mechanics in favor of a more item-based, RPG-style adventure. The current storyline that is known involves the Hocotations and Koppai characters from the previous entry in the series returning to the planet PNF-404 only to find that many parts of the planet, including its structures and various life forms, have been drained of their color and vitality by a new, invasive species of Bulborb known as the Slurp-Tongue Bulborb. These creatures can apparently process this color for nutrition, and as their numbers grow, the livelihood of all life and color on the planet has been thrown into mortal danger. With Olimar and Alph leading the charge against these fiends, it is up to the brave explorers to combat these monsters and return PNF-404 to its original, pristine glory.
In place of the traditional combat system, battles in Pikmin Color Splash are dictated by the use of dye cards by the player that dye Pikmin different colors in order to grant them one-time-use powers that can be used to fight off enemies and explore puzzles, with a limited amount of dye adding an extra layer of strategy to their use. Dye can be purchased at the Paintiplex (a new central home base for the player) in exchange for pokos, which are now dropped by defeated enemies, and can be bought in the basic colors of red, blue and yellow and mixed in the field to produce dye-cards with varying effects. The central hub that is the Paintiplex is run by the returning President of Hocotate Freights as is the base’s Save Station, and each of the explorers has their own role to play. Brittany is in charge of the Paintiplex’s dye machine, assisted by Captain Charlie; Olimar once again returns as the main hero of the story and serves as the primary player character throughout it; Alph acts as a sidekick to Olimar and is responsible for using and maintaining the dye deck; and Louie is reprising his role from Pikmin 2 as the explorer that gets lost/captured and must be saved from the clutches of the enemy. In addition to the new combat mechanics, the surface of the planet is now divided into an overworld map with each explorable area split up into a level system, with players needing to complete levels successively in order to progress through each area. There are a total of five areas confirmed to exist in the game, with two more to be added on via launch-day DLC.
It is uncertain what plans Nintendo has with such a radical shift from traditional gameplay and storytelling with this latest addition to the Pikmin franchise, but alongside other launch titles like Super Mario: Toad Force and Pokemon Gogoat Simulator, they have made it quite clear that they are prepared to change everything to demonstrate to gamers that creativity in their products is not dead, if the ham-shaped NX console itself has not hammered that home already.

Is Color Splash just another spin-off? If it is, I'm seriously wondering why Nintendo refuses to make full games anymore. COME ON, NINTENDO! YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS! *headdesks repeatedly*

No wonder they haven't talked about Pikmin 4; they're too busy making this spin-off...sigh.

I guess Nintendo doesn't listen, huh. It might be too soon to judge. The game could end up being good!... Even if the depth has been flattened and the mechanics smell like trash. I hope having low motivation and excitement doesn't interfere in making wiki articles...

See, this is what happens when Miyamoto makes RPGs. If he is involved with this game that is.

I'm kinda surprised nobody saw this concept coming.
We see a continuous theme in the different types of Pikmin: Color. Across each game, the new Pikmin are ALWAYS a different color. So it only makes sense that at one point in the franchise, they change things up, and make it so the new Pikmin are colorless. I'm excited to see the new designs of the Pikmin, and what they will be capable of.

I don't entirely dis-like this idea. Sure, it's just a silly spin-off... but it does sound fun. I know people are complaining about it but come on - Nintendo needs a break. They just want to make some goofy games for us to enjoy. Besides, we never know how deep the story can go *shrug*

I remembered an idea I had. (I hope this won't be considered spam...) What if the Pikmin, being all colorful and stuff, are affected by this bolborb? They could become much weaker as an effect, and could go extinct. The paint could be a temporary boost in power, and another goal could be save the pikmin as they saved you.
Not to mention that it's easier to tell back-stories in an RPG, at least, that's how I feel.
Anyways, who knows what Nintendo has to offer.
