NO!
I just wanted to let you all know, these forums are not in any way yet dead. Activity has indeed dropped slightly since the opening, but this is expected. As of post date there are currently 47 members, of which about half are relatively active (going by last date logged in). This is nowhere near the amount of users we would like on this forum. So are we already dying because the number of post have slowed down? Not at all. More accurately we haven't even started yet. Let me discuss some plans.
First of all, I am in the works of a trailer for the forums. This will be the first video on our channel that is just for letting people know about the forums. The only other advertising of the forums have been half-way through 2 of the pikcast episodes, our twitter page, and 1-1 messaging to let people know. Yes, the Pikcast episodes do sometimes get up to thousands of views, however the amount of people who listen to all or most of the episode are very few according to youtube analytics, which makes sense due to the length of them. I would also say that those who follow us on twitter are mostly the same people who do watch the pikcast to the end as well. So with what we've done so far I wouldn't expect any more people than we already have. However with this trailer, if we can get the same number of people to watch a 5 minute video rather than an hour long video, that is solely focused on the forums, we can expect a lot more people to be interested in joining. I also have something else to say about this trailer which I will put at the end of this post.
Secondly, I have come into contact with DazzReviews, who I'm sure most of you are familiar with, and he has agreed to mention the forums in his next main-channel video. This will bring a large number of pikmin fans over to the forums, and not only more pikmin fans, but an audience which I feel will be more interested in joining.
Third, there are still many well-known Pikmin fans across many websites (Youtube, Deviantart, Twitter, ect.) who still don't know about the forums. I tried to get in contact with many of these people so that they can join us here and "reunite." However I can't get in contact with, nor do I know of all of these individuals, so please, if you know someone in the pikmin community, send them a personal invite to the forums, we are welcoming everyone.
Lastly, when more Pikmin 4 information is released we expect a lot of new members, and a lot of more conversation about released info. To make this happen we just have to get our name out there, and people will come to us. This is true for both the youtube channel, pikmin wiki, and the forums.
So why haven't we done more work on this sooner you may be asking. Well me and Jordan happen to be the only people really working on these forums, and with the holidays, start of school, and other distractions, we've been very very busy.
But now I am ready to start working on the forums some more. In addition to getting more people on the forums, I have some editing plans as well. First of all, If anyone can find, or is interested in making us a higher resolution background for the forums that would be great, as it seems a few of you thought it looked sort of bad. (and now that I see it I agree.) I will also hopefully soon be overhauling the profile section, making things easier to find, use, and look nicer. For the rest of the planed changes you can look at the changelog post, which has a "to-do."
So back to the trailer. Josh made a post on the forums about this already but we would love for you guys to participate in a certain part of the trailer. In one part everyone's voices are going to be overlapped. (to sound like a crowd) We are saying 2 things during this part. "whaaaatttt?" (in a, yeah whats up voice) and "yeaaaaahhhh!" (in a happy/excited voice). If you would like to participate, comment or pm yourself saying these two lines. It can be as silly as you want, that's kind of the idea. Don't worry about sounding unprofessional or anything, nobody's going to be easily able to pick out your voice in particular, and its supposed to be silly anyway.
Just wanted to give you all an update to whats going on. I hope all of you guys have had a happy new year so far, and I'm excited to see what it brings for us!
